Third Diablo 3 Class Confirmed

After months of waiting, Blizzard finally unveiled at Blizzcon 2008 (October 10-11) the third class that will be playable in Diablo 3 – the Wizard.

Joining the ranks of the Barbarian and the Witch Doctor, the Wizard is a rebuild of the original Diablos’ sorceress. In addition to being able to cast fire, frost and lightning spells (there’s no news whether they will still have that damn Frozen Orb), they can now control time. How cool is that, eh? They also seem to be able to cast spells of arcane nature such as magic missile.

Assuming that since Barbarians are now playable as females, players can now also play male versions of the wizard, as opposed to the old version’s female-only sorcerer. Although you have to admit, the sorceress was quite hot (or cool? Get it? Never mind.).


A gameplay trailer can be found on Blizzard’s Diablo 3 site. Comments on this class by other players range from average to poor – I myself don’t see a big difference from a wizard and a sorceress. Although having a new arsenal of spells under your disposal is pretty nifty, the wizard still lacks major changes for it to be called a new class. Let’s just hope that, for our sake and theirs, Blizzard will get the creative juices running (or flowing) before they begin work on another new class.

As of now, there is no news about the fourth class, or about Diablo 3′s release date, although many believe Blizzard’s target date to be the fourth quarter of 2009.
